Teaching

I operate using Federico Ardila's axioms:

  • Axiom 1. Mathematical talent is distributed equally among different groups, irrespective of geographic, demographic, and economic boundaries.
  • Axiom 2. Everyone can have joyful, meaningful, and empowering mathematical experiences.
  • Axiom 3. Mathematics is a powerful, malleable tool that can be shaped and used differently by various communities to serve their needs.
  • Axiom 4. Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

My teaching statement is here.

I have completed Safe Space Training at Georgia Tech and am committed to practicing allyship to the LGBTQIA community at Georgia Tech (and elsewhere). I also have been recognized by the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Class of 1934 Honor Roll.

One student is reading the Disk Embedding lemma by Behrens, Kalmar, Kim, Powell, and Ray with me this semester. Two students have taken reading courses from me in the past, one read Knots and Links by Dale Rolfsen and 4-manifolds and Kirby Calculus by Robert Gompf and András Stipsicz and the other read Combinatorial Group Theory by Wilhelm Magnus, Abraham Karass, and Donald Solitar along with A Quick Trip Through Knot Theory by Ralph Fox.
